On Sunday 4th September, a long awaited event took place - the Official Opening of the Special Needs School Samui. Many guests came from all over the island to share in this special day.
Guests queued to register and also took the time to put some money in the waiting collection boxes!
As expected, the ceremony commenced with chanting by monks to ensure that the school would be blessed with good luck.
When the chanting was finished, the audience was blessed further with sprinkled water.
Speeches were then made, including one from a particularly notable guest, the Deputy Minister of Social Development and Human Security, who came to see this school specifically designed to cater for these
special children.
The minister later informed the Chairman of the Foundation that if she was satisfied with the quality of
provision, her ministry would adopt the school, which in turn would mean financial support!
The Rotary Club are proud to have played a major role in the success of the building, having devoted 3 years of fund raising.
Our contribution was clearly evident; the roof, doors and windows.
Only missing, but promised is guttering to ensure that precious rainwater is saved.
Later, it was decided to use money raised at the Samui Charity Regatta in May, to build a perimeter wall and install a gate.
