The Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin held our 13th Amateur Golf Classic once again at the prestigious Banyan Golf Club on the 24th of November 2023. Since receiving charter from Rotary International in April 2010, our club has hosted the annual golf tournament as the main source of fundraising to support the local communities here in Hua Hin, throughout Thailand, and other countries as well.
Again this year, the Amateur Golf Classic was well supported with 27 teams consisting of 108 players of many nationalities, including three teams from Australia who flew over primarily to take part in the tournament. Without the support from the players who many we see year after year, our Amateur Golf Classic would not have been a success.
The weather conditions were very favorable while the seasonally high winds made some of the holes a little more challenging, however, and once again the Banyan team has maintained the golf course in excellent condition.
After the golf, a welcome drink and canapes were provided at the Mulligans Pub where the players could recount their tales of success or woe and watch the sunset from the terrace.
Congratulations to the winning team, Dansea.
As the main purpose of the golf tournament is to help us raise funds for our community service projects, last year we raised over THB 1.14 million, and between the 1st of July 2022 and 30th of June 2023, we contributed THB 1.8 million helping the underprivileged and disadvantaged in our community.
Following the celebratory dinner which was attended by over 150 people, the main fundraising event took place with a live auction, a silent auction and a prize raffle which together raised over THB 300,000. Once again, the generosity of all those that supported the event cannot be praised highly enough.
The final result of this event raised over THB 1.2 million which will be used to continue local projects for both disease prevention and treatment, basic education, and hospital and school equipment, and we will continue to run our water safety and drowning prevention programs for local school children.
Without the support from our main and supporting sponsors, local businesses, the Banyan Golf Club, and of course the Rotarian volunteers, the continued success of our Amateur Golf Classic would not be possible. Special thanks go out to our club’s Golf Committee who put forth their time and effort organizing this event year after year.
We look forward to seeing you again for the 14th Amateur golf classic in November 2024.
